Together with its partners, WWF has developed its Green Heart of Africa Initiative, reaching out at all levels – from villages to presidential offices – to protect and sustainably manage one of the most outstanding forest and freshwater ecosystems in the world, while satisfying Central Africa’s pressing development needs.
The 2020 vision of the Green Heart of Africa (GHOA) Initiative is that the Congo Basin’s forests, freshwater landscapes, and species are sustainably managed. Conservation of this biodiversity is achieved with commensurate efforts to maintain healthy ecosystems, as well as addressing economic growth, sustainable development, climate change pressures and the livelihoods of the peoples of the Congo Basin.
