WWF, the global conservation organization, is seeking to recruit a Leader, "Green Heart of Africa" Initiative, located in the WWF Central Africa Regional Programme Office in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The Initiative:
Together with its partners, WWF has developed its Green Heart of Africa Initiative, reaching out at all levels - from villages to presidential offices - to protect and sustainably manage one of the most outstanding forest and freshwater ecosystems in the world, while satisfying Central Africa's pressing development needs.
The 2020 vision of the Green Heart of Africa (GHOA) Initiative is that the Congo Basin's forests, freshwater landscapes, and species are sustainably managed. Conservation of this biodiversity is achieved with commensurate efforts to maintain healthy ecosystems, as well as addressing economic growth, sustainable development, climate change pressures and the livelihoods of the peoples of the Congo Basin.
The Role:
The Leader will provide dynamic leadership in the development and implementation of this ambitious and high profile conservation initiative which will be implemented in the Congo Basin region over the next 10-15 years.
You will need:
• An advanced degree or equivalent work experience in environmental, and/or relevant social, natural or political sciences;
• Technical proficiency in the field of conservation, natural-resource management or international development;
• 8-10 years professional international experience in a senior leadership role developing and leading the implementation of large, multi-disciplinary programmes or organisations;
• Good knowledge of and experience in the Africa region;
• Demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple donor budgets;
• Excellent leadership,, organizational, interpersonal and teambuilding skills;
• Proven experience in effectively leading large complex programmes and associated budgets, with strong programme management skills;
• Proficiency in French and English.
Location and conditions:
The position is located in the WWF Central Africa Regional Programme Office in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The successful candidate will be paid a competitive package commensurate with the significant responsibilities and visibility of the role.
