Based in Maroua, Bamenda or Yaounde, Cameroon

SNV-Cameroon provides capacity strengthening to local organisations (private, public or NGO) engaged in work for poverty reduction. In particular, we seek impact in: improvement of revenues, employment and production; better access to basic services (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and better access of the poor to Renewable Energy. In all our work, special attention is given to issues of governance, gender and inclusion. Our Advisors combine technical competencies with the ability to facilitate change.

Access to modern energy not only helps eradicate extreme poverty and improve the environment and living conditions, it also reduces the disparity between men and women. Social services (hospitals and schools) and businesses can only operate efficiently if they have access to modern energy. It is nowadays fully recognized that access to affordable and sustainable energy products and services is necessary for the fulfilment of most development objectives.

The overall goal of SNV Cameroon is to contribute to improve the livelihoods of the rural and marginalised groups by accelerating the dissemination of renewable energy products and services for the poor. In this context, SNV has recently chosen to extend its advisory team and is seeking a level III (senior level) advisor in Renewable Energy.

Responsibilities:

The main activities will be:

Support clients / group of clients in developing and implementing successful Renewable Energy dissemination programmes and projects;Support the operational management of the National domestic Biogas Program through coaching of and advice to its project coordinator and other staff members;Support the operationalization of SNV Cameroon strategy for Renewable Energy and translate it into continued support activities to a wide range of actors;Provide client focused quality capacity building advisory services to clients, partners and Local Capacity Builders (LCBs);Support the development of multi stakeholder approach and market structureSupport advocacy and lobbying policies creating an enabling environment of the sectorInitiate and contributes to national activities within his/her field of expertise;Stimulate market and product innovation for SNV Cameroon;Stimulate and develop synergies among sectors as RE and Agriculture/ WASHSupport mainstreaming governance for empowerment, gender equity and social inclusion in the Renewable Energy sector.Contribute to sharing and learning among Renewable energy team: best practices, methods, tools, case-studies, etc.;Give strategic direction for the scaling up of the program’s activities; provide on-the-job support, coaching, technical backstopping and guidance to SNV advisors across all portfolios and LCBs on the above mentioned issues;Provide input for decision making in Renewable Energy practice area development;Actively explore new markets – opportunities for resource mobilization – product - client combinations;Build strategic alliances and partnerships which leads to creating income and employment opportunities;

Job requirements and candidate profile:

University degree (Master’s level preferred) in Renewable energy (or in Management of appropriate development technologies), Economics of Sustainable development, Agro-economy, Rural development or similar; Master’s degree + 7 years, or Bachelor’s degree + 10 years, of expertise in RET (Renewable Energy Technology);Minimum of five years working in international development  ;Proven track record in capacity building, process facilitation, sector development and resource mobilization;Experience in micro and medium size enterprise development and insight into problems and constraints in stimulating private-public partnerships;Ability and experience in analysing the socio- economic and political context of renewable energy;Experience in networking, alliances building and facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, product development, organisational learning, institutional change processes, and project proposal formulation.Strong (state of the art) knowledge of the renewable sector inCameroonand/orAfrica;Knowledge of policy development and governance in Renewable EnergyUnderstanding of SNV cross-cutting themes such as good governance, gender equity and value chain development;Knowledge of and experience with participatory monitoring and evaluation systems and with process documentation for future reference, organizational learning and decision making.Client and team oriented attitude;Leadership, entrepreneurship and coaching and self-reflection skills;Business attitude and willingness to learn;Results orientated;Proven ability to work in different cultural settings and multi-cultural environment;Proven ability to take initiatives independently and to have perseverance under adverse circumstances;Flexibility to work compatibly with national community based and non-government, government and private sector organizations;A strong flare for problem solving and evidence-based approaches to capacity development;Readiness to work and travel in rural districts with minimal amenities;Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in both French and English;Computer literacy in MS Office and Internet use

The COO will report to the chief executive officer, the COO will be responsible for enhancing the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow the company to continue to grow and fulfil its mission.
With a direct staff of 4 to 5 based in West Africa, the COO will manage the following functions:
- Supervision of the Exploration Program:
Working with the Project Manager in West Africa, overseeing all sub-contractors and invoice payment policies
- Financial Management and Oversight:
Working with the CFO, manage and oversee all financial and business planning activities, including:
Direct and administer all financial plans. Oversee business policies and accounting practices. Review and analyze of financial reports. Support and advise the CEO in decision making. Lead and support organizational budgeting process. Oversee reporting and monitoring of organizational performance metrics. Provide overall financial oversight and monitoring. Ensure that relevant financial data is presented to the CEO and senior management team.
Working with the director of human resources in country, manage and oversee the human resource function, including:
Recruitment, hiring, and compensation in accordance with the ruling of the Compensation Committee. Benefits administration and oversight. Professional training and development, including new employee orientation. Retention strategies. Regulatory oversight and legal compliance. Ensuring that the human resource function is properly resourced and represented within the senior management team.
- Operations:
Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements
- Business insurance:
procurement, monitoring and management Information technology " working with the manager of information technology, ensure the on-going maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure, including hardware, software, and ASP applications. Organizational reporting and monitoring: provide guidance and leadership through management of the company metrics and measurement reporting process.
- Office management: oversee administrative functions for all offices, ensuring smooth daily operations of exploration program, physical plant and equipment. Board of directors " working with the CEO provide staff support and guidance to the company board and act as staff liaison to relevant board committees.
- Profile:
-Minimum BA, ideally with an MBA; CPA preferred
- +15 years experience in Africa within the iron ore industry
- bilingual French and English
- Strong operational experience: ideally has worked in a senior management role for 10+ years in a socially responsible organization with progressive experience leading to at least three years’ experience in operational/administrative management.
- experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing all financial aspect of an exploration program, human resources, information technology, and legal.
- TSX listing experience a big plus.
-Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration.
- Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of the company. Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
The position will require the incumbent to spend a lot of time in the country and to travel quite often overseas.

French-speaking Senior Project Geologist (iron ore) " Central Africa

Reporting directly to (and working inter-dependently with) the Exploration Manager, the Senior Project Geologist will be responsible for a range of aspects of the Company’s business interests in the country.

The immediate focus of the role is exploration and feasibility drilling programs in remote areas. Sampling, training and leadership of nationals in all aspects of exploration are core components of the role.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Manage large scale exploration projects from grass roots level to feasibility stages
· Effective leadership and professional development of the Company’s geological team in the country
· Plan and implement the Company’s exploration and resource development campaigns including:
o Geological and structural mapping,
o Air and ground geophysics
o Drilling
· Principal responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of suitable sampling QA/QC procedures
· Design and implementation of geotechnical data collection, storage and validation procedures
· Interpretation, modelling and reporting of data acquired during exploration and resource development programs
· Resource estimation (to “sign off” stage)
· Assisting with the compilation of internal and statutory reports
· Verbal and written English/French or French/English translation
· Cultivating and maintaining a comprehensive network of mining industry contacts to ensure opportunities for the Company’s involvement are identified and pursued

ESSENTIAL BACKGROUND

· Undergraduate degree (or higher) in geology
· More than eight years experience in exploration with the majority being in iron ore
· Drill program design, implementation and leadership experience (RC and diamond drilling)
· Creating, implementing and monitoring sample QAQC programs

The following criteria will be well regarded

· Bilingual, French/English; speaking and writing
· Recent experience with geological computing applications (databases, plotting)
· International experience, especially ‘emerging economy’ states and jungle environment

This is a FIFO role with a 6:2 roster. In country, you will be based in camp.

Maria Rosa Nsisim Medical and Surgical Foundation Medical Training Program
Yaoundé, Cameroon

Job Description:

Project HOPE is recruiting health care volunteers for 3+ week rotations, beginning in April 2011, to support a long-term training program at the Maria Rosa Nsisim Medical and Surgical Foundation (the Foundation) -- a partnership between Project HOPE, Good Works International LLC, African Investment Corporation, Blaz Design Management and Investment S.A, and the Government of Cameroon -- in the capital city of Yaoundé, Cameroon. This pilot volunteer program will focus on health education through clinical counterpart and didactic training to build capacity and improve health care provision in the country.

Mission Scope:

Project HOPE will send volunteer providers for 3+ week rotations on a continued and sustained basis, in accordance with the yearlong schedule set forth by the Foundation. Volunteers will deploy from home, live in Foundation-approved housing, and will work at the Foundation. Volunteers will conduct side-by-side teaching and training, as well as didactic education of the medical doctors and nursing staff.

Future Scale-Up:

Project HOPE will also be looking to develop a technical health assessment team to survey the Foundation to assist in the development of long-term programmatic goals and metrics to develop three key areas in order to refine the Foundation's identity in country: 1) hospital administration, 2) OB-GYN, and 3) emergency room operations. The output of this assessment will help determine future long-term training to improve the Foundation's capacity as well as set a model that is replicable across the country. This program has great potential for the future and we are looking for visionary volunteers to come in and help lead and guide this program.

Funding:

Volunteers will be responsible for their roundtrip airfare to Yaoundé and their visa. The Foundation will offer a meet/greet service, airport transfers to and from Yaoundé, all meals, and lodging in a Foundation-approved facility. The Foundation will manage an orientation program as well as the in-country accreditation and host nation credentialing process.

Recruitment: For the initial training program, we are looking for qualified, board-certified volunteers, both physicians and nurses, specializing in the following areas:

Maintenance Supervisor

Our client, a well renowned international Drilling Contractor, requires a Technical Co-ordinator to oversee the preventive and corrective maintenance of all rig systems and to ensure the vessel is in compliance with regulatory body requirements, plans for Classification Society surveys as well as manage the preparation of shipyard surveys and upgrades. Also to ensure assets are maintained to a high operational standard and that inventory levels are adequate.

Required to be fully familiar with the vessel’s S.O.P.E.P, Waste Management Plan and PEI plan Ensure that non-conformities, accidents, incidents, and near misses within his department are documented and reported to the Master Ensure that all Maintenance personnel are issued personal protective equipment and ensure that the crew is trained in the maintenance and use of all necessary PPE. Hold daily departmental meetings to discuss and inform personnel of safety and general issues concerning the maintenance department. Ensure orientation and familiarization of all new and transferred personnel reporting to the vessel. Responsible for ensuring that his/her Certificate/s of Competency (MODU or STCW 95 as appropriate) and Medical are current. Ensure that adequate resources, tools, and equipment are available as required by the vessel’s Safety Management System. Ensure that Lifeboats, FRCs and Workboats are maintained and serviced according to recommended procedures. Will Liaise with the Chief Engineer.


Maintenance

Responsible for the maintenance, of all equipment (including drilling and subsea), machinery, main propulsion plant and all other vessel control systems

Ensure that all critical mechanical & electrical safety systems are maintained and tested to company standards and flag state regulations

Coordinate with the Site Manager and Captain (on DP vessels) to plan and schedule maintenance needs

Support the Rig Asset Manager in developing and executing all equipment requirements

Operate, monitor, evaluate, and document machinery performance

Ensure fuel operations are handled in accordance with procedures

Communicate with all department supervisors to organize; document, and implement planned preventative maintenance and repair procedures for all equipment on board.

Ensure personnel are aware, understand and follow written repair procedures. Document and communicate any discrepancies or problems to the Master, Site Manager and Rig Asset Manager

Maintain a record of the rigs engineering system activities

Administer Maximo program and coordinate all corrective PM between departments.

Sign off on all PM and CM work orders to guaranty proper execution of maintenance tasks

Periodically audit executed work to ensure consistent with work order report

Responsible for the MAF and EFR processes and coordinate follow up with Rig Asset Manager

Coordinate with the Rig Asset Manager for the preparation of the 5yr maintenance plan and any rig modifications or AFE’s

Facilitate audit execution from shore and / or corporate office

Responsible for controlling inventory levels

Responsible for the follow up on action items

Track and Monitor AME KPI’s

Review and update maintenance procedures, in conjunction with other department heads, to ensure that the vessel’s working operations are conducted in a way that prevents injury to personnel and/or damage to the vessel or equipment. Inform department personnel of any changes in these procedures.

Ensure that the drilling crew uses the Assets as they are designed to be used. Any abuse should be reported to his direct supervisors immediately

Generate Max and Mins levels for all expendable materials.

Review Maintenance Department requisitions and expenditures. Ensure that unnecessary items are not purchased, and that inventory levels are adequate.

Enlist department heads to carry out physical inspection of spares. Ensure good housekeeping of all maintenance work and storage areas

Ensure a smooth transition during Maintenance Department crew change. 

Ensure all load bearing equipment and pressure vessels under his/her control are maintained, inspected, tested, certified and recorded based on Statutory Regulations and Class requirements. Department supervisors will keep the systems current and communicate any deficiencies.

Applicants

Associate’s degree in mechanical technology or related educational equivalent from an accredited technical school, trade school, or institute is preferred.

Must have 10 or more years of experience in maintenance department, as well as offshore experience.

Strong expertise in preventive maintenance systems

Strong experience in hydraulic, electrical, mechanic systems is required.

Knowledge in reading and interpreting hydraulic, electrical and mechanical drawings is required.

Knowledge in Class certification is required.

Who: Looking for a motivated hospital administrator, nurse or physician to serve as HOPE Medical Director (HMD) for Cameroon to oversee our health care volunteers (VOLS) supporting a long-term, ongoing training and education program with MRNMSF -- a partnership between Project HOPE, MRNMSF, Good Works International, the Africa Investment Corporation, Blaz Design Management and Investment S.A, and the government of Cameroon -- in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This pilot volunteer program will focus on health education through didactic and clinical counterpart training to build capacity and improve the overall functionality of the hospital, with eventual scale-up plans for the city and then country of Cameroon.

Mission Scope: Project HOPE will send teams of physician and nurse volunteer providers for 3-6 week rotations on a continued and sustained basis, in accordance with the yearlong schedule set forth by MRNMSF. Volunteers will deploy from home, live near the hospital in approved housing, and will work in the hospital for the duration of their mission.

HOPE HMD selected should have following background/experience and bona fides:
.BSN, MD/DO or higher educational diploma leading to nursing/physician degree or degree in hospital administration. An MPH would be helpful
.Current physician or nursing credentials (state licensure, BLS, ACLS); no record of outstanding unresolved malpractice
.Demonstrate previous successful experience in international health positions to include clinical, leadership/management and education/instruction skills

Reporting directly to (and working inter-dependently with) the Exploration Manager, the Senior Project Geologist will be responsible for a range of aspects of the Company’s business interests in the country.

The immediate focus of the role is exploration and feasibility drilling programs in remote areas. Sampling, training and leadership of nationals in all aspects of exploration are core components of the role.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Manage large scale exploration projects from grass roots level to feasibility stages
· Effective leadership and professional development of the Company’s geological team in the country
· Plan and implement the Company’s exploration and resource development campaigns including:
o Geological and structural mapping,
o Air and ground geophysics
o Drilling
· Principal responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of suitable sampling QA/QC procedures
· Design and implementation of geotechnical data collection, storage and validation procedures
· Interpretation, modelling and reporting of data acquired during exploration and resource development programs
· Resource estimation (to “sign off” stage)
· Assisting with the compilation of internal and statutory reports
· Verbal and written English/French or French/English translation
· Cultivating and maintaining a comprehensive network of mining industry contacts to ensure opportunities for the Company’s involvement are identified and pursued

ESSENTIAL BACKGROUND

· Undergraduate degree (or higher) in geology
· More than eight years experience in exploration with the majority being in iron ore
· Drill program design, implementation and leadership experience (RC and diamond drilling)
· Creating, implementing and monitoring sample QAQC programs

The following criteria will be well regarded

· Bilingual, French/English; speaking and writing
· Recent experience with geological computing applications (databases, plotting)
· International experience, especially ‘emerging economy’ states and jungle environment

This is a FIFO role with a 6:2 roster. In country, you will be based in camp.

- Profile:
-Minimum BA, ideally with an MBA; CPA preferred
- +15 years experience in Africa within the iron ore industry
- bilingual French and English
- Strong operational experience: ideally has worked in a senior management role for 10+ years in a socially responsible organization with progressive experience leading to at least three years’ experience in operational/administrative management.
- experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing all financial aspect of an exploration program, human resources, information technology, and legal.
- TSX listing experience a big plus.
-Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration.

Maintenance Supervisor

Our client, a well renowned international Drilling Contractor, requires a Technical Co-ordinator to oversee the preventive and corrective maintenance of all rig systems and to ensure the vessel is in compliance with regulatory body requirements, plans for Classification Society surveys as well as manage the preparation of shipyard surveys and upgrades. Also to ensure assets are maintained to a high operational standard and that inventory levels are adequate.

The Role

Safety

Required to be fully familiar with the vessel’s S.O.P.E.P, Waste Management Plan and PEI plan Ensure that non-conformities, accidents, incidents, and near misses within his department are documented and reported to the Master Ensure that all Maintenance personnel are issued personal protective equipment and ensure that the crew is trained in the maintenance and use of all necessary PPE. Hold daily departmental meetings to discuss and inform personnel of safety and general issues concerning the maintenance department. Ensure orientation and familiarization of all new and transferred personnel reporting to the vessel. Responsible for ensuring that his/her Certificate/s of Competency (MODU or STCW 95 as appropriate) and Medical are current. Ensure that adequate resources, tools, and equipment are available as required by the vessel’s Safety Management System. Ensure that Lifeboats, FRCs and Workboats are maintained and serviced according to recommended procedures. Will Liaise with the Chief Engineer.


Maintenance

Responsible for the maintenance, of all equipment (including drilling and subsea), machinery, main propulsion plant and all other vessel control systems

Ensure that all critical mechanical & electrical safety systems are maintained and tested to company standards and flag state regulations

Coordinate with the Site Manager and Captain (on DP vessels) to plan and schedule maintenance needs

Support the Rig Asset Manager in developing and executing all equipment requirements

Operate, monitor, evaluate, and document machinery performance

Ensure fuel operations are handled in accordance with procedures

Communicate with all department supervisors to organize; document, and implement planned preventative maintenance and repair procedures for all equipment on board.

Ensure personnel are aware, understand and follow written repair procedures. Document and communicate any discrepancies or problems to the Master, Site Manager and Rig Asset Manager

Maintain a record of the rigs engineering system activities

Administer Maximo program and coordinate all corrective PM between departments.

Sign off on all PM and CM work orders to guaranty proper execution of maintenance tasks

Periodically audit executed work to ensure consistent with work order report

Responsible for the MAF and EFR processes and coordinate follow up with Rig Asset Manager

Coordinate with the Rig Asset Manager for the preparation of the 5yr maintenance plan and any rig modifications or AFE’s

Facilitate audit execution from shore and / or corporate office

Responsible for controlling inventory levels

Responsible for the follow up on action items

Track and Monitor AME KPI’s

Review and update maintenance procedures, in conjunction with other department heads, to ensure that the vessel’s working operations are conducted in a way that prevents injury to personnel and/or damage to the vessel or equipment. Inform department personnel of any changes in these procedures.

Ensure that the drilling crew uses the Assets as they are designed to be used. Any abuse should be reported to his direct supervisors immediately

Generate Max and Mins levels for all expendable materials.

Review Maintenance Department requisitions and expenditures. Ensure that unnecessary items are not purchased, and that inventory levels are adequate.

Enlist department heads to carry out physical inspection of spares. Ensure good housekeeping of all maintenance work and storage areas

Ensure a smooth transition during Maintenance Department crew change. 

Ensure all load bearing equipment and pressure vessels under his/her control are maintained, inspected, tested, certified and recorded based on Statutory Regulations and Class requirements. Department supervisors will keep the systems current and communicate any deficiencies.

Applicants

Associate’s degree in mechanical technology or related educational equivalent from an accredited technical school, trade school, or institute is preferred.

Must have 10 or more years of experience in maintenance department, as well as offshore experience.

Strong expertise in preventive maintenance systems

Strong experience in hydraulic, electrical, mechanic systems is required.

Knowledge in reading and interpreting hydraulic, electrical and mechanical drawings is required.

Knowledge in Class certification is required.

Knowledge in Regulatory Compliance is required.

Knowledge in Rig Survey is required

English needed, Bi-lingual is preferred (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese)

Verbal communication skills necessary
