Responsible for the execution and management of logistics operations for improving the service level to
field operations. In charge of all matters related to timely movement of goods at an optimum cost.
Reports to the TMC manager and maintains a close working relationship with the following:

Business segmentsSupply chain and finance functionsHSEInterface with internal/external customers, freight forwarders and transportation suppliers to ensure efficient, effective and repeatable service delivery.Responsible for the implementation of their Country Logistics Center (CLC)Responsible for the implementation of programs resulting in continuous improvement of service levels to the field organisation.Builds and maintains an effective and lean logistics team in CLC, aiming at continuous growth of individual and team performance through training, supporting and motivation.Implements objectives jointly with the Business Segments and reports on the performance of his/her logistics organisation.Manages local transport programs, including transport network, customs and regulatory compliance, supplier development and performance programs.Manages logistics costs and overall perfomance through identification of freight consolidation opportunities and root causes analysis of deviations, process improvement reviews, negotiation and administration of third party logistics contracts. Identitifes and works on total cost reduction initiatives.Develops and manages processes for domestic distribution. International Potato Center (CIP) Administrative / Accounts Assistant Job in Bungoma Kenya

The International Potato Center (CIP) is an International Agricultural Research Centre that seeks to reduce poverty and achieve food security on a sustained basis in developing countries through scientific research and related activities on potato, sweet potato, and other root and tuber crops.

CIP is part of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).CIP operates a Regional Office for the Sub-Saharan Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices in Bungoma town.

CIP is hereby inviting applicants for the position of Administrative /Accounts Assistant for the Bungoma Office.

Principal Functions:

The successful candidate will be supervised by the Project Manager and Regional Finance Officer and will perform the following duties:

Accounts:

Monthly preparation of the cash position and bank reconciliations.Budget monitoring and analysis.Ledger maintenance and analysis.Payments to local and international suppliers including petty cash managementImplementation of CIP policies and proceduresMaintenance of office décorMake travel arrangements and travel requests for staffArranging conferences & meetingsHandling motor vehicle maintenance, service and supervising the drivers.Maintenance and servicing of office equipmentKeep inventory of office equipment and suppliesHandle telephone calls/faxes, receive and assist visitors to the officeOrganize and maintain filing systemProvide other administrative support as requiredA Degree in Business Administration-Accounting or other related professional qualifications can be considered.At least 3 years relevant experience of which 2 years should be in a similar (Accounts / administrative) position, preferably in an International Organization or Foreign Mission.Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsGood knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of government and related agencies.Ability to work independently and to take initiative when sorting issues with the government ministries and suppliers.Computer literate in Microsoft Office.Competent driver with current valid driving licenseWillingness to work on weekends if circumstances requireTerms of appointment

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based on a One-year renewable contract. CIP offers an attractive compensation package commensurate with experience.

CIFOR is looking for a Regional Communications Officer for the Africa Region.

Reporting to the Media Relations and Outreach Manager, the Regional Communications Officer leads the development, implementation, evaluation and continual improvement of CIFOR’s regional communication strategy for Africa.

The Regional Communications Officer works with scientists to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CIFOR’s overall investment in communication through effective planning and evaluation. The post holder will play a leading role in the development of a regional communications strategy with the support of CIFOR’s technical experts.


Duties and responsibilities

Develop the African elements of CIFOR’s multilingual website.Develop appropriate communications materials in multiple formats on our work in Africa, such as:
- Write stories, news releases, e-newsletters and other content for the web, printed material and the media
- Prepare multimedia packages for the web and media.  Liaise with media in the region to disseminate information on our research.Build communication plans and budgets into regional research proposals and projects to enhance impact.Support the integration of communication for development activities and knowledge management into projects and programmes.Build the communication capacities of scientists and others in the region by arranging communication training and providing mentoring.Evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities and recommend better approaches.

Requirements

Education, experience, technical skills and competencies

Degree in communication or related disciplineAt least 5 years of professional work experience in media relationsExperience in planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive communication programsExperience in working for a research facility or within the development sector is an advantageKnowledge of African communication networkVerbal and written fluency in English and French
