Professional Resume Objective Examples

The best resume objectives for both entry level and professional candidates include several very important key aspects that are often forgotten. Here are several things to keep in mind when writing your next resume.

Clear Title

The number one thing that quickly sets resumes apart from the pile is to have a clear and noticeable title at the beginning. If you have previously held a similar position that you are currently targeting then consider using your job title at the beginning. However, if you have a limited amount of direct experience you can use a more general title that encompasses your professional direction. For example, you can simply use "Accounting & Finance" as your title if you are a recent graduate or possess little experience in the field. This still gives overall direction to your resume without stating that you are at the professional level just yet.

Qualifications Profile

Another essential part of your resume should be the qualifications profile. Typically, this is a brief paragraph outlining your greatest accomplishments, achievements, and abilities. This paragraph is the introduction to who you are as a professional and will likely determine whether or not the reader will continue. To increase your chances of getting the rest of your resume read, use clear and somewhat brief sentences and avoid adding unnecessary words just to draw the paragraph out. A clearly written profile that is short is better received than a long profile that simply uses big professional words to sound important.

Something to consider with your profile is to utilize bullets. While generally a paragraph is expected, the use of bullets with specific competencies listed can increase clarity if you are targeting seemingly disconnected positions. For example, if you are targeting accounting and finance jobs but would also be open to teaching positions, using bullets in your qualifications profile can highlight your qualities in both of these areas and help your resume appear connected rather than random.

Competencies

To further clarify your abilities, consider including a brief list of industry-specific qualifications. These should be short one to two-word descriptions of particular areas of expertise. Search job listings and descriptions to see the various competencies that employers are looking for and, if you expertise in that area, include that word or phrase in your list. Remember to keep the list relatively brief, however, as too many will cause the reader to skip over the section rather than actually reading it.
